We don’t know what it is, but the Wildstar team has something in store for its fans. With a cryptic poster, adorned only with the words “Class Dismissed”, the date “05/22/13″ and a picture of an empty classroom, Mechari teacher at the front, Wildstar has got my mind working on overdrive. So what could it be? Well, In my mind there are really only three options:
1. The Last Two Paths: We’ve heard quite a bit about the Explorer and the Soldier, two of the four paths in Wildstar. For those not in the know, Paths function as a sort of Sub-class, and are meant to tailor the game to your own personal play style. Like exploring secret caves and uncovering every corner of a game’s map? You’ll likely enjoy the Explorer. Rather spend your time defending points and bashing skulls? Go for the Soldier instead. Your only able to choose one path, but through a system known as “Crossing Paths”, which we heard a few details about at PAX East, you’ll be able to to form a gang of friends, all with different paths, and all benefit.
There are four total paths, and we’ve heard next to nothing about the Scientist and the Settler. All we know is that the Scientist is geared towards completionists and collectors, and the Settler is geared towards people that like to build things. It’d be nice to get a few more details and certainly worthy of a big reveal!
2. 1 or 2 of the remaining Classes: If an announcement has the word “class” in it, and you’re waiting to hear about any remaining classes, its probably not a bad hunch to think that we may see one, or even both of the remaining classes revealed this Wednesday. So far, we know of Four Character Classes: The Warrior, A Heavy -Handed Melee Fight: The Stalker, a stealthy Assassin; The Spellslinger, a Six-Shootin’ Spellcaster; and the Esper, a Psychic-Psyblade user. We know there are two more classes expected, and we’ve seen a few clips in the Dev Speak Videos showing of a character with a rifle, a weapon as of yet unused by any class. I’d predict we’ll see this class revealed, if any, and I’ll be bold and say this is going to be The Engineer, a Ranged Tank and Healer. Other than that, I think we’ll probably see a spellcaster of some description. No idea what kind though…
3. In Depth with Mentoring: The Classroom setting has me thinking that this may be an in depth look at Mentoring, a feature annoucned in the latest Beta Patch Notes. Here’s a refresher:
New Feature: Mentoring!
This system allows a higher level player the chance to play together with lower level players without negatively affecting their progression.
While a Mentor, the higher level player loses no access to their unlocked or purchased skills. However, attribute-based milestones will be adjusted based on the Mentor’s stats at the Mentor Level.
Players will be specifically prompted to become a Mentor if they are six levels or higher above the lowest level player in the party, however any player can mentor a lower-level player (regardless of the level difference) by typing “/mentor” while grouped.
Players must be within group range of a lower level player to Mentor down to them.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to see this feature is making its way into Wildstar. It may not be as flashy as a new Class being revealed, or as intriguing as learning more about the other two paths, but Mentoring will go a long way towards fostering the community and longevity of Wildstar, and I’d be more than happy to hear about.
